The beta runs on all three current-gen consoles, but they don't all deliver the same experience. If you're deciding which platform to claim your redeem code for -- or you're just curious how your console stacks up -- here's an honest breakdown of what each one brings to the table.
PlayStation 5
The PS5 version of the beta hits two targets depending on your preferred mode:
- Quality Mode: 4K at 30fps with full ray tracing -- reflections, global illumination, and enhanced shadows. Draw distances are maxed out.
- Performance Mode: 1440p at 60fps with ray-traced reflections only. Noticeably smoother, especially in high-speed chases and firefights.
PS5 also gets DualSense-specific features. Haptic feedback simulates road textures, weapon recoil, and environmental effects. Adaptive triggers resist based on vehicle acceleration and weapon type. It sounds like a gimmick until you've felt it -- then it's hard to go back. The download is roughly 138 GB and must be installed on the internal SSD or a compatible NVMe expansion drive.
Xbox Series X
Performance targets match the PS5 almost exactly -- 4K/30 in Quality, 1440p/60 in Performance. Where the Xbox Series X pulls ahead is Dolby Vision HDR support, which delivers wider color range on compatible displays. Quick Resume also works with the beta, letting you jump between the test build and other games without losing your place. Download size is about 140 GB on the internal SSD or Seagate Expansion Card.
Xbox Series S
The Series S is the budget option, and the compromises are real. You're looking at 1080p and 30fps with reduced ray tracing effects. The download is smaller at roughly 128 GB thanks to lower-resolution textures, but with only 364 GB of usable storage on the console, space is tight. If this is your only console, it absolutely works -- just temper your expectations compared to the X.
Side-by-Side Comparison
PS5 Quality: 4K / 30fps / Full ray tracing / DualSense features
PS5 Performance: 1440p / 60fps / Reflections only
Xbox Series X Quality: 4K / 30fps / Full ray tracing / Dolby Vision HDR
Xbox Series X Performance: 1440p / 60fps / Reflections only / Quick Resume
Xbox Series S: 1080p / 30fps / Limited ray tracing
So Which One Should You Pick?
Honestly? Both the PS5 and Series X deliver excellent results. If DualSense haptics matter to you, go PlayStation. If Dolby Vision and Quick Resume are your priority, go Xbox. The Series S is viable but noticeably behind. Either way, you can't go wrong with a current-gen console -- this beta was built specifically for them.
